What King's Candy is

King's Candy is a coffee-and-ginseng flavoured candy sold as a dietary supplement for adults. The carton holds twelve individually wrapped candies weighing 3.5 grams each, printed on the front of the box as "3.5g x 12 Pcs". This is a confectionery format rather than a capsule or tablet: each piece is a sweet, sealed in its own black foil wrapper marked with the gold crown mark, so one can be carried on its own without opening the rest.

The brand name and variety are printed on the front of the black carton — "KING'S CANDY", with "COFFEE & GINSENG" beneath it. Coffee is the first item on the ingredient list, and it is what gives the candy its flavour.

What is inside

The ingredient list printed on the side panel of the carton reads, in the order shown: Coffee, Glucose Syrup, Cynomorium Songaricum, Radix Panax Ginseng, Radix Eurycoma Longifolia and Lepidium Meyenii. Six ingredients in total. No per-ingredient weights appear anywhere on the packaging, so how much of each botanical a candy contains is simply not disclosed by the maker — the only quantities the box prints are the nutrition figures reproduced further down this page.

  • Coffee — the first ingredient printed on the carton. It supplies the flavour, the colour and the aroma of the candy. Coffee is also a natural source of caffeine; the packaging does not state how much caffeine a 3.5 gram piece contains.
  • Glucose syrup — the sugar base that gives a boiled sweet its body and shelf stability. It accounts for most of the 4.1 grams of carbohydrate in one candy.
  • Cynomorium songaricum — a parasitic flowering plant of the deserts and salt flats of Central Asia and western China, which grows attached to the roots of shrubs and has no leaves or chlorophyll of its own. The fleshy stem is dried before use, and the plant is known in traditional Chinese herbal practice as suo yang.
  • Radix Panax ginseng — "radix" is Latin for root, so this is the root of Asian ginseng, a slow-growing woodland perennial cultivated mainly in Korea and north-eastern China, where a crop typically spends four to six years in the ground before harvest. The NCCIH page on Asian ginseng gives general background on the plant.
  • Radix Eurycoma longifolia — the root of a slender understorey shrub native to the rainforests of Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam, commonly called tongkat ali or longjack. The root is intensely bitter, which is one reason it usually reaches consumers blended into something sweeter.
  • Lepidium meyenii — maca, a hardy root vegetable in the mustard family, grown on the Peruvian Andean plateau above 4,000 metres and eaten locally as a food crop long before it was sold as a supplement ingredient.

Four of the six ingredients are botanicals. The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements background sheet on botanical supplements explains how plant-based supplement ingredients are regulated and labelled in the United States.

Nutrition Facts

King's Candy carries a food-style Nutrition Facts panel rather than a Supplement Facts panel. It is printed on the right side of the carton in two columns, one for a single 3.5 gram candy and one for 100 grams of product. These are the figures exactly as printed.

Nutrition Facts — King's Candy Coffee & Ginseng
NutrientPer Serving (3.5 g)Per 100 g
Serving size1 candy (3.5 g)
Energy17 kcal392 kcal
Protein0.08 g1.8 g
Fat0 g0 g
Carbohydrate4.1 g96.2 g

Quantity as printed on the carton: 12 candies × 3.5 gram.

The panel lists no vitamins, no minerals and no percentage daily values, and it puts no weight against any of the six ingredients. Nothing further about the formula is printed on the packaging, so nothing further is stated here.

How to use it

The carton's directions read: "Take 1 candy (3.5g) every 2 days as dietary supplement." That single sentence is the entire dosage instruction printed on the packaging. The box gives no advance timing, no instruction about water, and no guidance about taking it with or without food.

Also printed on the carton: "Do not exceed recommend daily intake." For storage, the side panel says "Store in cool and dry place." The individual foil wrappers keep unopened pieces sealed until they are used.

Who it is for

This is a candy-format supplement for adults who would rather have a sweet than swallow a capsule. The coffee flavour is the point of difference — the ingredient list is led by coffee, not masked by it. At the printed rate of one candy every two days, a twelve-piece carton covers a little over three weeks of use.

The carton states that the product is "not intended for use by persons under the age of 21". It is not a food for general snacking and not something to leave in a shared sweet bowl, precisely because it looks like an ordinary wrapped candy. Good to know

The carton carries a consumer responsibility notice, reproduced here in substance: if you are pregnant, nursing, taking any medication or under the care of a physician, consult your physician before using this product, especially if you have heart disease or high blood pressure. Do not exceed the recommended daily intake. Keep out of reach of children.

  • Because coffee is the first ingredient, this candy is not a good match for anyone avoiding caffeine. The amount per piece is not declared on the box.
  • Each piece contains 4.1 grams of carbohydrate, almost all of it sugar from the glucose syrup, which is worth knowing if you are counting sugar.
  • No allergen statement and no California Proposition 65 warning are printed on the packaging, so none is reproduced here. General guidance on choosing and using supplements safely is published by NCCIH and by the FDA.
  • Orders ship in plain outer packaging with nothing on the box describing the contents or naming the store. See our return policy for the current terms.

Frequently asked questions

How many candies come in a box?

Twelve. Each one weighs 3.5 grams and comes sealed in its own black foil wrapper; the front of the carton prints this as "3.5g x 12 Pcs".

How often does the label say to have one?

The carton says to take one candy of 3.5 grams every two days as a dietary supplement. No other frequency, interval or timing is printed on the packaging.

Is there a printed amount for the ginseng or the other botanicals?

No. The box lists six ingredients in order — coffee, glucose syrup, Cynomorium songaricum, Panax ginseng root, Eurycoma longifolia root and Lepidium meyenii — but prints no milligram figure against any of them.

What does it taste of?

Coffee. It is the first-listed ingredient and the variety printed on the front of the carton is "Coffee & Ginseng". The sweetness comes from the glucose syrup base.

Does it need water, or to be taken with food?

The packaging gives no instruction either way. It is a candy, so it is used the way a candy is used; the box says nothing about water, meals or timing.
