What it is

The Bathmate HydroXtreme3 is a manual, water-filled vacuum pump for adults, made by Bathmate and sold as a complete kit: a clear moulded cylinder, a grey concertina base, a red hose and a separate grey hand squeeze bulb, plus a zip-up hard case and a set of accessories. It has no motor, no battery and no charging port. The carton carries the Bathmate wordmark with the line "Just Add Water", which is the whole idea of the design: the cylinder is used filled with water rather than air.

A tour of the pump

• Top fitting. The cylinder narrows at its shoulder into a short neck with a grey collar, capped by a small clear fitting. The red hose attaches here.
• Red hose. A flexible red tube runs from the top fitting, loops down around the outside of the cylinder and ends at the bulb. Because the bulb is not fixed to the cylinder, it can be held comfortably to one side.
• Hand squeeze bulb. An oval grey bulb with a metal fitting at its neck and a small moulded mark on its body. It is the hand control for the pump.
• Front decal panel. A rectangular printed panel on the front of the cylinder carries a CE mark and several lines of small print. The small print is not legible at the resolution of our photographs, so we do not quote it here.
• Concertina base. Below a white band at the joint, the lower section is a grey, ribbed gaiter with three deep folds, finished with a flat grey base ring.

Grey, clear and red is the whole colour scheme. There is no metal body, no gauge dial and no electronics anywhere on the unit.

What the design itself makes clear is the shape of any session. The cylinder is filled with water before use, the bulb is the control, and the unit has to be emptied, rinsed and dried afterwards. That makes it most practical in a bath or shower, which is where the "Just Add Water" line points. Start gently, stop if anything feels uncomfortable, and never keep going through pain or numbness.

Cleaning, drying and storage

A water pump needs more aftercare than an air cylinder, and it is worth planning for. After each use, empty the cylinder, rinse the cylinder, gaiter and hose, and let every part dry fully before it goes back in the case. The clear body makes it easy to see whether any water is left inside. If you use the kit's "clean" bottle, follow the directions on its own label.

Put the pump away only once it is dry. The hard case keeps the hose from kinking and the gaiter from being crushed, and the padlock keeps the kit private in a shared home.
