• Mura puama root powder — 200 mg. Printed with that spelling. Material sold under this name comes from Ptychopetalum olacoides, a small tree of the Amazon basin whose root and lower wood are used in Brazilian traditional preparations, where the name is more often written marapuama.
• L-arginine — 200 mg. The only entry that is not botanical. An amino acid and one of the building blocks of protein, found in ordinary food such as turkey, pumpkin seeds, peanuts, chickpeas and dairy. The body also makes its own.
• Panax ginseng root powder — 225 mg. The genus name comes from the Greek panakes, and the compounds chemists isolate from the root are named ginsenosides after it. Roots are lifted after several years; whether they are simply dried or steamed first is what separates white from red ginseng. Background at Asian ginseng (NCCIH).
• Superba root powder — 200 mg. The panel prints no botanical name beside this one, and "Superba" alone does not identify a single plant. Rather than guess at the species, this page reports the entry as printed and identifies it no further.
• Shilajit — 200 mg. Not a plant. A dark, tarry material that seeps from crevices in rock at high altitude — the Himalaya, Karakoram, Altai and Caucasus — understood to be very slowly compressed plant matter, collected by hand in warm weather and purified before use.
• Tribulus — 200 mg. Tribulus terrestris, better known as puncture vine or goathead. It sprawls flat over poor dry ground, and its seed capsule dries into a hard burr with rigid spines set at angles — a notorious nuisance to bare feet and bicycle tyres across the warm parts of the world.
• St john wort — 200 mg. Printed that way on the card; the plant is Hypericum perforatum. It flowers bright yellow around midsummer, close enough to St John's Day on 24 June to have taken its name from it, and a leaf held to the light shows the translucent dots behind perforatum. • Vitamin B12 — 15 mg. A water-soluble B vitamin, obtained in the diet mainly from meat, fish, eggs and dairy. No Daily Value percentage is printed against this entry either.
