What it is

Kangaroo Gold is a herbal dietary supplement for adults, sold as one tablet sealed in a blister bubble on a single hanging card. Its Supplement Facts panel gives the serving size as one tablet and the servings per package as one, so a card is one serving and nothing is left over. The formula is written as a single proprietary blend: one figure covers the blend, and the component names are listed underneath without individual amounts.

The front of the card is white, with a gold foil kangaroo across the middle, the Kangaroo Gold wordmark above it and an 18+ mark in the bottom corner. The blister sits low on the right. All the printed information is on the reverse — directions, precautions, the Supplement Facts panel, a storage line, and the barcode, which reads 614347454176.

What's inside

Twelve comma-separated entries appear beneath the proprietary blend heading. None carries its own amount; that is how blends of this style are normally written, with a single number standing for the whole. The spellings below are the card's, reproduced even where they depart from the usual ones, and each note describes the plant or compound the name refers to rather than anything the blend is claimed to do.

  • Chinese Herbal Aweto — a materia medica name rather than a botanical one. In Chinese herbal writing it generally denotes Cordyceps, a fungus found on the Tibetan plateau. No Latin binomial is printed beside it, so the entry stands as the card has it.
  • Tian Shan — printed as its own entry. Tian Shan is a mountain range straddling China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan; no plant name accompanies it on the panel.
  • Snow Lotus Flower — the common English name for Saussurea, a genus of cushion-forming plants that flower on high-altitude scree in central Asia.
  • Icariin — an isolated compound rather than a whole plant. It occurs in Epimedium, a genus of low woodland perennials that gardeners keep for their spring flowering.
  • Ashwagandah Root — spelled that way on the card. The usual English spelling is ashwagandha, for Withania somnifera, a small shrub whose root has a long history in Ayurvedic practice. The NCCIH ashwagandha fact sheet covers the plant in general terms.
  • Tribulus Terrestris — called puncture vine in English, a name earned by the spiked seed cases it scatters. It grows as a warm-climate weed across most of the world.
  • Maca Root — a brassica root farmed on the Peruvian altiplano, above the elevation at which most other crops will grow. It is cooked as a vegetable in Peru and dried and milled for supplement use elsewhere.
  • Panax Ginseng — Asian or Korean ginseng, whose root is among the most heavily traded botanicals in the world. The NCCIH page on Asian ginseng sets out what the plant is and how it has been studied.
  • Bioperine Complex — a registered trade name for a standardised extract of black pepper fruit.
  • L-Arginine — an amino acid the body can ordinarily make for itself, and one also supplied by nuts, seeds, poultry and dairy in an everyday diet.
  • Choline — a nutrient the body requires but produces too little of on its own; eggs, liver and soya are the usual dietary sources.
  • Dimethyiglycine — another of the card's spellings. Written out conventionally it is dimethylglycine, a compound formed from the amino acid glycine.

Readers who want a neutral primer on this category of ingredient can consult the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements overview of botanical dietary supplements. That page, and the two above it, discuss the plants and nutrients on their own terms. Neither they nor the agencies behind them have anything to say about this blend or this brand.

Supplement Facts

The table below is a transcription of the printed panel, row for row.

Supplement Facts — Kangaroo Gold
IngredientAmount Per Serving% Daily Value

Proprietary Blend8000

† % Daily Value not established.

On the panel the blend figure carries no unit of measure — it is printed simply as 8000. We have left it that way instead of supplying a unit the packaging does not give.

Ingredients: Chinese Herbal Aweto, Tian Shan, Snow Lotus Flower, Icariin, Ashwagandah Root, Tribulus Terrestris, Maca Root, Panax Ginseng, Bioperine Complex, L-Arginine, Choline, Dimethyiglycine.

Because the panel breaks out nothing within the blend, nothing is broken out here either, and no figure has been estimated or divided across the twelve names. The panel shows no vitamin or mineral rows, no allergen statement and no separate line for the tablet base.

How to use it

The card's directions read: take up to 1 tablet at least 30 minutes before engaging in sexual activity, and do not take more than 1 tablet within 2 days. Note the wording — at least 30 minutes, not exactly 30 — and note that the two-day figure is a minimum spacing between tablets, which is the ceiling the manufacturer sets.

Storage gets one line on the panel: store in a cool dry place. Sealed foil-and-plastic blisters are forgiving that way, since the tablet stays enclosed until it is pushed through. Elsewhere on the same face the card repeats that the user must be 18 or over.

Who it's for

Adults only, and the packaging makes the point on both faces. The product belongs to our men's supplement range, and it is one of a number of items here that carry the Kangaroo branding.

A single-serving card suits two situations in particular. The first is not having tried a herbal formula of this kind and wanting to see how it sits with you before buying a quantity of it. The second is occasional use, where a multi-count bottle would sit in a drawer for a long time between servings. If neither describes you, the multi-count formats in the same category are the ones to compare.

Good to know

This card devotes more space to precautions than to anything else, which is a fair signal of how carefully to read them. The label's wording:

  • Do not take this product if you are taking any kind of medication or drug, especially if it contains any nitrates, within the past 12 hours.
  • Do not use this product if you have any type of medical condition, especially a heart condition or a high blood pressure.
  • Immediately discontinue using this product if you're experiencing shortness of breath or heart irregularity.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to use this product.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

We have quoted rather than paraphrased there, because the nitrate clause is the one that most deserves a pharmacist's or a doctor's attention if you take anything on prescription. For wider reading before you decide, the NCCIH maintains general guidance on dietary and herbal supplements.

On this packaging there is no California Proposition 65 warning, and we have not invented one. Nor does either face carry a gluten, vegan or non-GMO marking.

Frequently asked questions

How many tablets come on the card?

One. A Kangaroo Gold card holds a single tablet in one sealed blister, and the Supplement Facts panel confirms it: serving size one tablet, one serving per package.

How far in advance is the tablet meant to be taken?

The printed directions specify at least 30 minutes beforehand. They also cap intake at one tablet in any two-day period. Beyond those two figures the packaging gives no timing, duration or quantity of any kind.

Why is no amount shown against each ingredient?

Because the panel itself does not show one. A proprietary blend is declared as a single total, with its components named afterwards in no stated proportion, and that is exactly how the transcription above reproduces it.

Who does the label say should not use it?

Anyone under 18. Anyone who has taken medication of any kind within the previous 12 hours, nitrates especially. And anyone with a medical condition, a heart condition or high blood pressure. Where any of those apply, the discussion belongs with a licensed healthcare professional ahead of an order, not afterwards.

How should the card be kept?

Somewhere cool and dry, and away from children. The blister does the rest: nothing needs decanting, and the tablet is not exposed until it is pushed out.

Consult a licensed healthcare professional before use, especially if you have a medical condition, heart concerns, or take prescription medication (including nitrates). Keep out of reach of children.

I am a regular customer of this product. The last time I purchased it, the quality was much better than in previous batches. I really like this product and hope the company continues using this formula. However, this product is not so strong. But one of the best things about it is that it comes in tablet form rather than capsules, and it works much more effectively than other male enhancers I’ve tried.
