What MuscleTech Alpha Test is
MuscleTech Alpha Test is a dietary supplement in capsule form, sold in a black 120-capsule bottle that the front label marks as a 30-day supply. The Supplement Facts panel sets the serving at 2 capsules and lists 60 servings in the bottle, and the directions ask for two of those servings a day — which is exactly how 120 capsules covers a month. The brand is MuscleTech; the bottle is distributed by Iovate Health Sciences U.S.A. Inc. of Wilmington, Delaware, and carries a “Made in the USA from international ingredients” seal. It sits with the rest of our Supplements for Men range.
The formula is a short one: one essential mineral, three standardized botanical extracts, a mineral salt and a vegetable powder, with every amount printed on the panel.
What's inside
Here is each listed ingredient, what it actually is, and where it comes from. Amounts below are per 2-capsule serving, transcribed from the bottle's own panel.
- Zinc (as zinc gluconate) — 7.5 mg, 68% of the Daily Value. Zinc is an essential trace mineral that the body cannot store, so it has to come from food or supplements; oysters, red meat, beans and nuts are everyday sources. Zinc gluconate is a common, well-absorbed salt used in lozenges and tablets. The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements fact sheet on zinc gives general background on the mineral itself.
- Fenugreek extract (Trigonella foenum-graecum, seed) — 300 mg, standardized to 50% saponins. Fenugreek is a small legume grown around the Mediterranean and across South Asia. Its seeds are a kitchen spice first — they are what gives commercial curry powder much of its aroma — and a long-standing herbal ingredient second. “Standardized to 50% saponins” means the extract is manufactured to a fixed concentration of one plant-compound family, so each batch measures the same.
- Tribulus extract (Tribulus terrestris, whole herb and fruit) — 250 mg, standardized to 45% saponins. Tribulus is a low, sprawling plant that grows in warm, dry ground worldwide; its spiky seed cases are the reason for its common name, puncture vine. It has been a fixture of sports-nutrition formulas for decades.
- Shilajit extract (PrimaVie®) — 100 mg, standardized for 50% fulvic acid. Shilajit is a dark, tar-like material that seeps out of rock faces in high mountain ranges and has a long history in traditional South Asian preparations. PrimaVie® is a branded, patented grade of it, and a registered trademark of Natreon, Inc.
- Boron citrate — 100 mg, supplying 5% boron. Boron is a trace element found naturally in fruit, leafy vegetables, nuts and legumes. Citrate is simply the carrier salt. Note that the two numbers are not the same thing: 100 mg of the citrate supplies 5 mg of elemental boron.
- Broccoli (Brassica oleracea, whole plant) — 50 mg. Broccoli is a cruciferous vegetable from the same species as cabbage, kale and cauliflower. The bottle's side panel describes this whole-plant powder as a source of diindolylmethane, usually shortened to DIM, a compound formed from cruciferous vegetables.
No Daily Value has been established for the five botanical and mineral-salt entries, which is what the dagger symbol against them on the panel means — it is a labeling convention, not a comment on quality. For general reading on how plant-based supplements are regulated and described, the NIH maintains an overview of botanical dietary supplements, and NCCIH publishes a plain-language Herbs at a Glance index.
Other ingredients, exactly as printed: Rice Flour, Capsule (Gelatin, FD&C Red No. 3, Titanium Dioxide, FD&C Yellow No. 6, FD&C Red No. 40, FD&C Blue No. 1), Magnesium Stearate, Silicon Dioxide. The gelatin shell matters if you avoid animal-derived ingredients, and the four FD&C colors plus titanium dioxide matter if you avoid synthetic colorants — both are in the capsule casing rather than the formula.

How to use it
The label directs: take 2 capsules with a glass of water twice daily. Do not exceed 4 capsules in a 24-hour period, and read the entire label before use and follow the directions provided. In practice that is one serving in the morning and one later in the day.
Storage is specified on the bottle too: keep it in a cool, dry place between 60°F and 80°F. Do not use the product if the packaging has been tampered with. The bottle is sealed under the cap, so check the seal before the first serving.
Who it's for
This is a product for adults 18 and over, and the label says plainly that it is for adult use only. It will suit someone who already buys herbal and mineral capsules and wants a short, fully disclosed formula with every milligram printed rather than a proprietary blend. The 120-capsule bottle is the month-long format, not a sampler, so it fits people who prefer to buy one bottle at a time instead of restocking weekly. You can browse comparable capsule formats across our men's range.
It is not suitable if you are under 18, and the label specifically says not to use it if pregnant or nursing. If you take prescription medication or have an existing medical condition, the decision belongs with your doctor rather than with a product page.
Good to know
The bottle carries this warning, printed in full: for adult use only; do not use if pregnant or nursing; consult a medical doctor before use if you have a medical condition, and before starting a diet or exercise program; keep out of reach of children.
One point from the panel is worth stating on its own: four daily capsules is the ceiling the manufacturer prints, not a starting point to build on — the number is there as a limit. No California Proposition 65 warning is printed anywhere on this packaging, so none is reproduced here. If you want general consumer guidance before starting any new supplement, the NIH publishes a fact sheet on dietary supplements for exercise and athletic performance.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many capsules are in the bottle, and how many days does it cover?
The bottle holds 120 capsules, and the front label states a 30-day supply. The panel sets the serving at 2 capsules and lists 60 servings, and the directions call for two servings a day, so four capsules a day gives you 30 days from one bottle.
Are the capsules vegetarian or vegan?
No — the capsule shell is made with gelatin, which is animal-derived. The “Other Ingredients” line reads: Rice Flour, Capsule (Gelatin, FD&C Red No. 3, Titanium Dioxide, FD&C Yellow No. 6, FD&C Red No. 40, FD&C Blue No. 1), Magnesium Stearate, Silicon Dioxide.
What is PrimaVie®, and why is it named on the bottle?
PrimaVie® is a branded, patented grade of shilajit extract and a registered trademark of Natreon, Inc. MuscleTech names it because it identifies one specific sourced ingredient standardized for 50% fulvic acid, rather than generic shilajit, and this formula supplies 100 mg of it per 2-capsule serving.
Do I take it with food or on an empty stomach?
The label specifies water, not food: take 2 capsules with a glass of water twice daily. It does not direct you to take the capsules with a meal, so follow the printed instruction and space the two servings across the day.
How is the order packaged when it ships?
Orders ship in plain outer packaging that says nothing about the contents. It will not show the Gear Isle name.
