Why is this iron 'non-constipating'?
NOW® uses Ferrochel® iron bisglycinate (or Taste Free™ ferric glycinate in the liquid), a gently chelated form in which iron is bound to the amino acid glycine. This form has clinically demonstrated good absorption and is well tolerated, so it tends to be easier on the stomach and less constipating than older iron salts.*

Who typically needs an iron supplement?
Iron needs are higher for menstruating women, people with plant-based diets, endurance athletes and frequent blood donors. Because too much iron is also a concern, it is best to supplement based on need — ideally confirmed by your healthcare provider — rather than by default.*

How should I take it for best absorption?
Take this liquid with a meal as directed. Pairing iron with vitamin C (as this formula's co-nutrients do, or with a glass of orange juice) supports absorption, while calcium, dairy, coffee and tea can reduce it, so separate those by a couple of hours.*

Cautions & interactions

Iron should be used thoughtfully: only supplement iron when you have reason to (ideally confirmed with your doctor or a blood test), since the body has no easy way to remove excess. Take it apart from calcium supplements, antacids, dairy, coffee and tea, and separate it by a few hours from thyroid medicine and certain antibiotics (tetracyclines, quinolones), all of which affect iron absorption. Vitamin C helps absorption. Talk to your physician before use if pregnant, nursing, taking medication or managing a medical condition. IMPORTANT: accidental overdose of iron-containing products is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under 6 — keep this product out of the reach of children and, in case of accidental overdose, call a doctor or poison control center immediately.
