Maca is a root vegetable in the brassica family, grown at high altitude in the Peruvian Andes and eaten there as a food long before it was ever encapsulated. Epimedium is a low-growing ornamental woodland plant from China and Japan. Butea superba is a climbing vine from Thailand, and cnidium monnieri is a flowering plant in the carrot family whose seeds are a long-standing item in Chinese herbal preparations. Two of the nine are nutrients rather than botanicals. Niacin is vitamin B3, found in everyday foods such as poultry, fish, brown rice and peanuts. Because both sit inside the blend, the panel does not state how much of either the capsule holds.

The individually listed ingredients. Four items appear on the panel with their own weights at 100 mg each. Tribulus terrestris is a low, spreading plant sometimes called puncture vine, common in warm dry regions worldwide. Catuaba is bark from a small tree native to the Brazilian rainforest. Xanthoparmelia scabrosa is a lichen, which is not a plant at all but a partnership between a fungus and an alga. L-arginine is an amino acid your body makes and also takes in from ordinary protein foods such as turkey, pumpkin seeds, dairy and lentils.

Damiana extract is listed at 50 mg. It is a small aromatic shrub from Mexico and Central America whose leaves have been used in teas and liqueurs. Those two numbers do different jobs and are worth keeping apart. The two-to-three-hour figure is how far ahead of time the maker suggests taking it. The 60-hour figure is a minimum spacing between capsules — a ceiling on how often, not a description of how long anything lasts.
