What it is
NOW Foods Thyroid Energy is a dietary supplement sold as a bottle of 90 Veg Capsules, with a label serving of 2 Veg Capsules and 45 servings printed on the panel. Nine ingredients are declared: three B vitamins, four minerals, one free-form amino acid and one standardized botanical extract. The bottle front carries a Non-GMO roundel and the line "A Dietary Supplement"; the panel reads "Manufactured by NOW FOODS, 395 S. Glen Ellyn Rd. Bloomingdale, IL 60108, USA" and "Made and quality tested in the USA with globally sourced ingredients." It sits in our Supplements range.
What's inside
Every row on this panel that carries a % Daily Value also names the chemical form the nutrient is supplied in — right down to the folate row, which names folic acid inside its own parentheses. That is worth reading line by line, because "zinc" and "zinc as an L-methionine complex" are not the same entry on a label.
- Vitamin B-6 (from Pyridoxine HCl), 2 mg, 118% DV. Pyridoxine hydrochloride is a salt form of vitamin B-6.
- Folate, 680 mcg DFE (400 mcg folic acid), 170% DV. This is one ingredient written in two units — the dietary folate equivalent figure and the weight of the folic acid form itself — not two separate additions. The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements fact sheet on folate covers the nutrient generally.
- Vitamin B-12 (as Methylcobalamin), 60 mcg, 2500% DV. Methylcobalamin is one of the forms of B-12 used in supplements, distinct from cyanocobalamin. This is the highest percentage on the panel by a wide margin; the NIH fact sheet on vitamin B-12 is the general reference.
- Iodine (from Potassium Iodide), 225 mcg, 150% DV. Potassium iodide is a salt of iodine, and it is the only iodine source named on this label.
- Zinc (from L-OptiZinc® — Zinc L-Methionine Complex), 25 mg, 227% DV. L-OptiZinc is an ingredient trademark, and the label says so in its own small print: "L-OptiZinc® is a Lonza trademark." Background on the mineral itself is in the NIH fact sheet on zinc.
- Selenium (from L-Selenomethionine), 50 mcg, 91% DV. L-selenomethionine is the amino-acid-bound form of selenium. At 50 mcg this is the smallest amount on the panel by weight, and the only row that sits below 100% of the Daily Value. The NIH fact sheet on selenium gives the general picture.
- Copper (from Copper Amino Acid Chelate), 1 mg, 111% DV. A chelate is a mineral bound to an amino acid carrier; the panel names the form but not the specific amino acid.
- L-Tyrosine (Free-Form), 1 g (1,000 mg). Tyrosine is an amino acid found in ordinary protein foods. "Free-form" means it is supplied as the single amino acid rather than as part of a protein chain. At a full gram it is the biggest single amount on the panel — eight times the 125 mg ashwagandha row — and it is the only entry the label writes in grams before restating it in milligrams.
- Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) (Root and Leaf) Standardized Extract (min. 2.5% Withanolides), 125 mg. Ashwagandha is a shrub long used in ayurvedic herbal preparations, and the label describes this as an ayurvedic herbal extract. The panel is specific in three ways: it names the binomial, it names the plant parts used — root and leaf, not root alone — and it states the standardization marker. General background is in the NCCIH page on ashwagandha.
The last two rows carry a dagger rather than a percentage, and the panel's footnote explains why: "† Daily Value not established." Seven rows with a percentage, two without, across three different units of weight — micrograms, milligrams and one gram.
Other ingredients are listed as Hypromellose (cellulose capsule), Microcrystalline Cellulose, Stearic Acid (vegetable source) and Silicon Dioxide. The panel assigns no role to these, so neither do we.

How to use it
The label's Suggested Usage reads: "Take 2 capsules daily, preferably in divided doses with food." Divided doses means splitting the two capsules across the day rather than taking both at once. For storage the bottle says "Store in a cool, dry place after opening."
One further line is printed on the same face: "Natural color variation may occur in this product."
Who it's for
This is a product for adults, and the label is explicit that it is "For adults only" and "Not recommended for pregnant/nursing women." Beyond that, the honest answer is that it suits someone who already knows which of these nine ingredients they are looking for and would rather have them on one panel than track them separately. The panel names a specific form and a specific amount for every row, which is what makes that comparison possible at all. Anyone uncertain whether a given nutrient belongs in their routine should raise it with a clinician first; the rest of our Health & Wellness range covers single-ingredient options too.
Good to know
The full printed caution reads: "For adults only. Not recommended for pregnant/nursing women. Consult physician if taking medication (especially taking thyroid, mood-altering, and central nervous system depressing medications), or have a medical condition (especially diagnosed thyroid conditions or ulcers). May cause mild transient GI upset. Discontinue use if GI symptoms persist. Discontinue use if rash/itching occurs. Keep out of reach of children."
On allergens the panel states: "Not manufactured with wheat, gluten, soy, milk, egg, fish, shellfish, tree nut or sesame ingredients. Produced in a GMP facility that processes other ingredients containing these allergens." Both halves of that sentence matter — the second is the manufacturer's own qualification of the first.
The bottle carries a GMP Quality Assured roundel printed beside the barcode on the usage face.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many capsules are in the bottle, and how many servings is that?
The bottle holds 90 Veg Capsules and the panel prints 45 servings. The label sets a serving at 2 Veg Capsules taken daily, which works out to a 45-day supply at one serving a day.
What does "680 mcg DFE (400 mcg folic acid)" mean on the folate row?
It is one ingredient expressed in two units, not two separate ingredients. 680 mcg DFE is the dietary folate equivalent figure the % Daily Value is calculated against, and 400 mcg folic acid is the weight of the folic acid itself; the panel prints both on a single row.
Is the capsule itself vegetarian?
The capsule shell is hypromellose, which the label identifies in parentheses as a cellulose capsule, and the product is sold as "90 Veg Capsules". The stearic acid in the other-ingredients list is declared as vegetable source. The label makes no vegan or vegetarian certification claim beyond those printed descriptions.
Does it contain major food allergens?
The label states it is not manufactured with wheat, gluten, soy, milk, egg, fish, shellfish, tree nut or sesame ingredients, and immediately adds that it is produced in a GMP facility that processes other ingredients containing these allergens. Anyone with a food allergy should weigh that second sentence as carefully as the first.
How is the order packaged for delivery?
Orders ship in plain outer packaging. It will not show the Gear Isle name.
