What it is

Vitamax Doubleshot Energy Honey is a honey-based supplement sold in a single-serve foil sachet holding 20 g. The carton describes it as a “Premium Instant Premix Honey with Maca” — a honey base with four further bee-derived and botanical ingredients mixed through it. It is made in Malaysia for Superfood International Sdn. Bhd.

The format is what separates it from most of the men’s category. There is nothing to swallow whole: the sachet is a flat foil stick with a moulded spout at one end, and the contents are a thick honey premix rather than a powder or a pressed tablet. The serving is fixed by the sachet itself, so there is nothing to measure.

You will find this sachet alongside the rest of our supplements for men range.

What’s inside

The carton declares five ingredients, in this order: Pure Honey, Royal Jelly, Radix Eurycoma Longifolia (Tongkat Ali), Radix Panax Ginseng and Lepidium Meyenii (Maca). Ingredient lists run from most to least by weight, so honey is the bulk of the 20 g and the four additions sit below it.

  • Pure Honey — the carrier and the majority of the sachet by weight. Honey is a simple carbohydrate food made by bees from floral nectar, and the nutrition panel bears that out: of the 17 g of carbohydrate in a sachet, 15 g is sugar. Honey is also what gives the premix its viscosity, which is why it can be taken straight from the spout.
  • Royal Jelly — a milky secretion produced by worker honeybees in glands on their heads, fed to bee larvae and, throughout her life, to the queen. It is collected from hives and has a long history as a food and supplement ingredient in Asia and parts of Europe. Like honey, it is an animal-derived product, not a plant extract.
  • Radix Eurycoma Longifolia (Tongkat Ali)radix is simply Latin for root, so this is the root of Eurycoma longifolia, a slender understorey tree native to the rainforests of Malaysia, Indonesia and Indochina. The root is bitter and traditionally simmered into a decoction; in modern Malaysia it is a familiar addition to coffee and canned drinks, which makes its presence in a Malaysian-made honey premix unsurprising.
  • Radix Panax Ginseng — the root of Panax ginseng, cultivated mainly in Korea and north-eastern China and one of the most heavily documented botanicals in the world. The NCCIH page on Asian ginseng gives general background on the plant and how it is used.
  • Lepidium Meyenii (Maca) — a root vegetable in the same botanical family as radish, turnip and mustard, grown on the high plateaus of the Peruvian Andes at altitudes where few crops survive. In Peru it is eaten as a food, and it is usually dried and milled to a powder before being used in products like this one. Maca is prominent enough here that the carton names it on the front.

One thing the carton does not do is give a milligram figure for any of the five ingredients. There is no proprietary-blend total and no per-ingredient amount printed anywhere on the packaging — the declaration is the list and its order, and nothing more. We have not estimated the missing numbers. For general background on how botanical ingredients are used in supplements, the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements publishes an overview of botanical dietary supplements, and NCCIH maintains a plain-language reference at Herbs at a Glance.

Nutritional information

The carton prints a food-style nutrition panel rather than a Supplement Facts panel. It is transcribed below exactly as printed, including both columns.

Nutritional Information — Vitamax Doubleshot Energy Honey, 20 g sachet

Serving Size1 Sachet (20 g)

Printed on the carton beneath the panel: “Not a significant source of vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium and iron.”

Ingredients: Pure Honey, Royal Jelly, Radix Eurycoma Longifolia (Tongkat Ali), Radix Panax Ginseng, Lepidium Meyenii (Maca).

How to use it

The carton gives two ways to take a sachet, and both are printed under “Directions”: mix one sachet with 150 ml of room-temperature water, stir well and drink it; or empty the whole sachet straight into your mouth through the spout. The water method is the one to use if you find undiluted honey too sweet or too thick.

Under “Recommended Use” the carton says to take one sachet (20 g) every two days as needed. That is the only frequency printed on the packaging.

No timing instruction appears anywhere on the carton — there is no guidance about what time of day to take it, whether to take it with food, or how long before anything. Read the panel on the carton you receive and follow what it says.

The carton prints no storage instruction either, so use your own judgement about where you keep it. It arrives as a sealed foil sachet.

Who it’s for

This is an adult product, sold for adults 18 and over, and it sits in our male enhancement category. Beyond that, a few practical things decide whether the format suits you.

A single 20 g sachet is a low-commitment way to try the format. Nothing is left over, nothing needs storing once it is open, and the serving cannot be misjudged. If you have never had a honey premix before and are not sure you will get on with the texture or the sweetness, one sachet answers that question cheaply.

It will not suit everyone. Honey and royal jelly are both bee products, so anyone who avoids bee-derived ingredients, for allergy reasons or otherwise, should leave this one alone. It is also genuinely sweet: 15 g of sugar and 70 kcal in a sachet is not trivial if you are counting either.

Good to know

The carton carries its own note to the buyer, printed under the heading “Consumer Responsibility”: “This is a traditional health food. Should you need further consultation, please contact your family doctor / pharmacist before taking this product.” That is the manufacturer’s own wording, and it is sensible advice.

Three certification marks are printed on the carton alongside the panel — Halal, GMP and HACCP. Those are marks the manufacturer has placed on the packaging; they describe manufacturing and dietary standards, and they say nothing about what the product does.

Also on the carton: manufactured for Superfood International Sdn. Bhd., made in Malaysia, with the company website printed as superfood.com.my. No Proposition 65 warning is printed on the packaging, so none is reproduced here.

If you take prescription medication, particularly nitrates, or you have a heart condition, the conversation to have is with a licensed healthcare professional before you use this or any similar product. The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements publishes a general consumer guide, Dietary Supplements: What You Need to Know, which covers the questions worth asking.

Frequently asked questions

What arrives when I order this?

One 20 g Vitamax Doubleshot Energy Honey sachet. It is a single foil stick pack with a spout at one end.

Is it a capsule or a tablet?

Neither. Vitamax Doubleshot Energy Honey is a honey premix — a thick, spoonable honey that is either stirred into water or taken directly from the sachet.

How much sugar does one sachet contain?

Fifteen grams, out of 17 g of total carbohydrate, at 70 kcal for the sachet. Those figures are printed on the carton’s nutrition panel and are consistent with a honey-based product.

Does the label say how much Tongkat Ali or maca is in it?

No. The carton lists the five ingredients in descending order by weight but prints no milligram amount for any of them, and no blend total. Anyone quoting you a figure for this product is not reading it off the packaging.

Consult a licensed healthcare professional before use, especially if you have a medical condition, heart concerns, or take prescription medication (including nitrates).
