What it is
EASE Double Chocolate Throat Relaxing Spray is a 2 fl. oz. (59 ml) chocolate-flavored oral spray sold under the Intimate Enhancements line and distributed by Doc Johnson Enterprises. The back of the carton carries a Drug Facts panel declaring two active ingredients: Benzocaine 5.00% w/v, listed with the purpose "oral anesthetic", and Glycerin 33.0% w/v, listed with the purpose "oral demulcent".
The bottle is clear plastic with an amber-colored liquid inside and a long-stemmed spray nozzle designed to reach the back of the mouth. It arrives inside a printed hanging carton. Elsewhere on the pack the product is described in five other languages as an oral desensitizing spray. You can find it filed with our other sprays.
What's inside
Two ingredients are declared as active, each with its own stated purpose on the Drug Facts panel.
- Benzocaine 5.00% w/v — oral anesthetic. Benzocaine is a local anesthetic in the "caine" family, related to procaine and butacaine. It is the same class of ingredient found in many everyday over-the-counter mouth and throat products. Because it is a caine anesthetic, the pack carries a specific allergy alert, covered below.
- Glycerin 33.0% w/v — oral demulcent. Glycerin is a clear, syrupy, slightly sweet liquid widely used in food and oral care. A demulcent is an ingredient that forms a coating film over a surface, and glycerin makes up a third of this formula by volume.
The panel then lists the inactive ingredients in full: Alcohol Denatured, Caramel, Flavor (Aroma), PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, PVP, Sucralose and Water (Aqua). Caramel accounts for the color and, with the flavor component, the double chocolate taste; sucralose is a non-sugar sweetener. Note that denatured alcohol is present, which matters both for anyone avoiding alcohol and for the flammability warning printed on the pack.

How to use it
Shake the bottle well before use, then use one spray at a time. The Directions on the carton are specific: adults spray into the throat or onto the affected area with only ONE spray per use, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a doctor or dentist. The panel also states plainly: do not exceed the recommended dosage.
Store the bottle at 20–25°C (68–77°F) and do not freeze it. Because the formula contains denatured alcohol, the pack warns that it is flammable and should not be used near fire, flame or heat. Keep the spray away from the eyes; if it does get into the eyes, the pack directs you to rinse thoroughly with water and to consult a doctor if irritation persists.
Who it's for
This is an adults-only product, and the Directions are written for adults specifically. The carton's "Do not use" section rules out two uses outright: it must not be used for teething, and it must not be used in children under 2 years of age. It is stocked in our adult range for both men and women, since nothing on the packaging designates it for one or the other.
Anyone who has ever reacted to a local anesthetic should read the allergy alert before buying. Anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding is directed by the pack to ask a health professional before use.
Good to know
This pack carries more safety text than a typical catalog item, and all of it is worth reading before you open the bottle.
- Methemoglobinemia warning. The carton states that use of this product may cause methemoglobinemia, a serious condition that needs prompt medical attention because it reduces the amount of oxygen carried in the blood, and that this can occur even if you have used the product before. Stop use and seek immediate medical attention if you or a child in your care develops pale, gray or blue colored skin (cyanosis), headache, rapid heart rate, shortness of breath, dizziness or lightheadedness, or fatigue or lack of energy.
- Allergy alert. Do not use this product if you have a history of allergy to local anesthetics such as procaine, butacaine, benzocaine or any other "caine" anesthetics.
- Sore throat warning. If sore throat is severe, persists for more than 2 days, or is accompanied or followed by fever, headache, rash, swelling, nausea or vomiting, consult a doctor promptly.
- Stop use and ask a doctor if sore mouth symptoms do not improve in 7 days, or if irritation, pain or redness persists or worsens.
- Keep this and all drugs out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the active ingredients in this spray?
Benzocaine 5.00% w/v and Glycerin 33.0% w/v are the two active ingredients. The Drug Facts panel on the EASE carton lists benzocaine with the purpose "oral anesthetic" and glycerin with the purpose "oral demulcent". Everything else in the bottle is listed as inactive.
How much should be used at once?
One spray per use, up to 4 times daily. The carton directions tell adults to shake well, then spray into the throat or onto affected areas with only ONE spray per use, up to 4 times a day or as directed by a doctor or dentist, and not to exceed the recommended dosage.
Can it be used for teething or given to a child?
No. The Drug Facts panel's "Do not use" section states that this product must not be used for teething and must not be used in children under 2 years of age. The pack also directs that this and all drugs be kept out of reach of children, and that a Poison Control Center be contacted in case of overdose.
Does it contain alcohol or sugar?
It contains denatured alcohol and no sugar. Alcohol Denatured is the first of the inactive ingredients listed, and the sweetener is Sucralose. The remaining inactive ingredients are Caramel, Flavor (Aroma), PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, PVP and Water (Aqua). Because of the alcohol content, the carton carries a flammability warning.
How is this order packaged for delivery?
Orders ship in plain outer packaging with no product images or product wording printed on the outside. The EASE carton and bottle travel inside that outer packaging, so nothing about the contents is visible in transit.
