What this is

EASE Throat Relaxing Spray in Salted Caramel is a 2 fl. oz. (59 ml) flavoured oral spray from Doc Johnson's Intimate Enhancements line, supplied as a clear pump bottle inside a printed carton. It sits in our Sprays category, but it is not a cosmetic mist: the back of the carton carries a full Drug Facts panel, which means it is an over-the-counter drug product with a declared active ingredient, a stated purpose, and mandatory warnings and directions.

Everything below is transcribed from the carton's own printed panel rather than from marketing copy.

What is in it

The Drug Facts panel declares two ingredients under "Active ingredient", each with its own stated purpose.

  • Benzocaine 5.00% w/v — purpose given on the panel as Oral Anesthetic. Benzocaine is a local anaesthetic that has been used in mouth and throat products for decades. It is also the ingredient behind the panel's most serious warning, which is reproduced in full further down this page.
  • Glycerin 33.0% w/v — purpose given on the panel as Oral Demulcent. A demulcent is a coating agent: it forms a film over a surface rather than acting on it chemically. Glycerin is a thick, sweet-tasting liquid used very widely in oral care and food products.

The inactive ingredients are listed on the panel as: Alcohol Denatured, Caramel, Flavor (Aroma), PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, PVP, Sucralose, and Water (Aqua). Two of those are worth calling out plainly. Denatured alcohol is present, so anyone avoiding alcohol for personal, religious or medical reasons should know that before ordering. And sucralose is the sweetener — the salted caramel character comes from the Caramel and Flavor (Aroma) entries together with sucralose, not from sugar.

The carton repeats the product descriptor in six languages down one side. The English entry reads Oral Desensitizing Spray, with Dutch, French, Spanish, German and Russian equivalents beside it.

How to use it

The directions printed on the panel are short and specific: shake well before use, then, for adults, spray into the throat or onto the affected area with only ONE spray per use. The panel states the product may be used up to 4 times daily as directed by a doctor or dentist, and adds separately: do not exceed recommended dosage.

The capitalisation of "ONE" is the manufacturer's, not ours, and the daily figure is printed as a ceiling rather than a suggestion. No advance timing appears anywhere on the pack — the panel gives no waiting period between spraying and any other activity, and we have not invented a figure to fill that gap.

Store the bottle at 20–25°C (68–77°F) and do not freeze it. The panel also carries a flammability warning, so keep it away from fire, flame and heat — that is the denatured alcohol in the formula.

Safety information printed on the pack

The carton carries a substantial warnings block. Read it before ordering.

Methemoglobinemia warning (printed in full on the panel): use of this product may cause methemoglobinemia, a serious condition that must be treated promptly because it reduces the amount of oxygen carried in blood. This can occur even if you have used this product before. Stop use and seek immediate medical attention if you or a child in your care develops: pale, gray, or blue coloured skin (cyanosis); headache; rapid heart rate; shortness of breath; dizziness or lightheadedness; or fatigue or lack of energy.

Allergy alert: do not use this product if you have a history of allergy to local anaesthetics such as procaine, butacaine, benzocaine or any other "caine" anaesthetics.

Sore throat warning: if sore throat is severe, persists for more than 2 days, or is accompanied or followed by fever, headache, rash, swelling, nausea or vomiting, consult a doctor promptly.

The panel also states: stop use and ask a doctor if sore mouth symptoms do not improve in 7 days, or if irritation, pain or redness persists or worsens. If pregnant or breast feeding, ask a health professional before use. Keep this and all drugs out of reach of children; in case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away. When using this product, do not get it into the eyes — if contact occurs, rinse the eyes thoroughly with water, and if irritation persists, consult a doctor.

Do not use for teething, or in children under 2 years of age. Both appear under their own "Do not use" heading on the panel.

Who it is for

This is an adult product sold to customers 18 and over, and it is stocked for both our Men and Women ranges. Because it is an over-the-counter drug rather than a cosmetic, the useful question is not "does it suit me" but "have I read the panel". Anyone with a history of reaction to a "caine" anaesthetic, anyone pregnant or breast feeding, anyone buying for a household with young children, and anyone who avoids alcohol should read the section above and speak to a pharmacist or doctor before deciding.

The panel's stated uses are worth quoting exactly, because they are what the manufacturer has declared this product is for. Under "Uses", the panel reads: for temporary relief of occasional minor irritation, pain, sore mouth and sore throat; pain due to canker sores, minor irritation or injury of the mouth and gums; and minor discomfort and protection of irritated areas in sore mouth and sore throat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a supplement or a drug product?

It is an over-the-counter drug product. The back of the EASE carton carries a Drug Facts panel — not a Supplement Facts panel — declaring Benzocaine 5.00% w/v as an oral anaesthetic and Glycerin 33.0% w/v as an oral demulcent, along with the mandatory warnings and directions reproduced on this page.

How much should be used at a time?

One spray per use, for adults, up to 4 times daily. Those are the exact directions printed on the panel, which also says to shake well before use and not to exceed the recommended dosage. The pack does not authorise repeated sprays within a single application.

Does it contain alcohol or sugar?

It contains denatured alcohol but no sugar. Alcohol Denatured is listed first among the inactive ingredients, and the sweetness comes from sucralose together with the Caramel and Flavor (Aroma) entries. The full inactive list is in the specifications table above.

Can this be used on children?

No. The panel's "Do not use" section states plainly: do not use for teething, and do not use in children under 2 years of age. The directions are written for adults only, and the pack instructs that this and all drugs be kept out of reach of children.

How is the order packaged?

Orders ship in plain outer packaging with no product imagery, brand marks or wording describing the contents on the outside. It will not show the Gear Isle name. The EASE carton and bottle travel inside that outer packaging.

What size is the bottle?

2 fl. oz. (59 ml). That figure is printed on both the bottle front and the carton front, and the bottle is a clear pump-spray type with a fine directional nozzle.
